NVC volleyball team picks up first win of 2022 season

The Napa Valley College volleyball team continued its season with two nonconference matches at the Napa Valley Classic on Wednesday, Aug. 31.

After losing the first match, 3-0 to Lassen Community College-Susanville, the Storm picked up its first win of the 2022 season, holding off Ohlone College-Fremont, 3-2.

Napa Valley (1-3 overall) got all-around solid play from eight of its players in the two matches.

In the 25-22, 25-11, 25-16 loss to Lassen, the Storm was led by Bella Dubois with six kills, two service aces, nine digs and eight points.

As a team, Napa Valley had seven service aces and 55 digs.

Other contributors for the Storm:

* Maui Cabrera: four kills, two aces, 15 digs, six points.

* Madison Gramlich: two kills, nine digs, two points.

* Aliya Merino: one kill, one point.

* Sienna Marin: one kill, one set assist, one dig, one point.

* Maria Magaoay: three kills, seven set assists, 11 digs, three points.

* Madison Iwatsu: three aces, six digs, three points.

* Kehaunani Wilson: seven set assists, four digs.

In the 25-21, 25-20, 16-25, 16-25, 15-11 win over Ohlone, the Storm was led by Dubois with 21 kills and a .174 kill percentage, 11 digs, one block assist and 21.5 points.

As a team, Napa Valley had 30 set assists, five aces and 90 digs in the match.

* Maui Cabrera: five kills, three set assists, one ace, 16 digs, six points.

* Madison Gramlich: one kill, two digs, one point.

* Aliya Merino: one kill, one point.

* Sienna Marin: one kill, one set assist, two digs, one block assist, 1.5 points.

* Maria Magaoay: three kills, 12 set assists, one ace, 19 digs, four points.

* Madison Iwatsu: two set assists, three aces, 16 digs, three points.

* Kehaunani Wilson: 12 set assists, 24 digs.

Napa Valley continues its nonconference season with two matches at home on Friday, Sept. 9.

In the 1 p.m. match, it's Napa Valley against Porterville College.

At 3 p.m., it's Skyline College-San Bruno against Porterville College.

In the 5 p.m. match, it's Napa Valley facing Skyline College.
