The Napa Valley College women's golf team got off to a solid start at the 2025 California Community College Athletic Association-Northern California Regional Championships in Madera on Sunday.
With four of its players posting scores in the 80's, the Storm completed the first day of the regionals, at Madera Golf and Country Club, in third place.
Napa Valley posted a 337-team score, which is just seven shots behind second-place Modesto Junior College, which has a 330-team score.
Reedley College is in first place with a 320-team score.
Leading Napa Valley, which finished in third place during the Big 8 Conference season, in Round 1 was Kylee Scroggs with a 7-over-par 80. Scroggs is in eighth place individually.
Also, playing well for the Storm was Libby Webb, who shot a 9-over-par 82. Webb is tied for 10th place individually. Madera Golf and Country Club is a par-73, 5,520-yard layout.
The Storm's Hazel Zastrow is tied for 15th place after posting an 86.
Hanna Ruggles is in 21st place after posting an 89.
Also, playing for Napa Valley is Rylie Olmo, 97, tied for 29th; and Loret Osorio, 100, 34th place.
There is a field of eight teams for the two-day, 36-hole Northern California Regional Championships, which concludes on Monday. There is a 9 a.m. shotgun start on Monday.
Sierra College-Rocklin is in fourth place with a 338-team score; Sacramento City College is in fifth place with a 352-team score; San Joaquin Delta College-Stockton is in sixth place, 373-team score; and Taft College is in seventh place, 400-team score.
The individual leader is Faith Hamstreet of Taft with an even-par 73.
Tegan Syverson of Sacramento City in in second place with a 1-over-par 74.
In third place is Delaney White of Sierra College with a 75.
The event is a qualifier for the 3C2A State Championships, Nov. 16 and 17, at the River Course at Alisal, in Solvang (Santa Barbara County).
The top-4 teams and six individuals who are not on those teams advance to the State Championships.
Team awards will be presented to the top-3 teams. The top-6 individual finishers earn All-NorCal honors.
Napa Valley's team is led by its two All-Big 8 Conference players: Webb, a sophomore, and Scroggs, a freshman. They have each played very well for the Storm this fall.
The 3C2A Southern California Regional Championships are Nov. 9 and 10 at Olivas Links Golf Course, in Ventura.
