Paul DeBolt will begin his seventh season (8thyear as the 2020-21 season was canceled statewide due to Covid-19) as the head women’s basketball coach at Napa Valley College this fall — 2026-27. He has guided The Storm to four straight winning seasons and four straight post season appearances while his teams have contended for a Bay Valley Conference Championship each year, an unprecedented streak in the history of NVC Women’s Basketball.
Coach Paul is dedicated to supporting his players as they begin their adult lives as people, college students and college basketball players. He works hard to be a consistent and positive influence in their daily activities and sets high standards for them as students and basketball players. His goal is to facilitate daily improvement and to launch them into an academic and basketball future at a four-year college with a basketball and/or academic scholarship, or into a vocation that will allow them to achieve their lifetime dreams. The ultimate goal is to cut a path that leads to a safe and successful beginning to their adult lives.
Over the past five seasons two of his players have been chosen All-State, 11 All-BVC, nine Academic All-State, and nine different players have played at the four-year level, including Rose Jamison who earned a Division 1 basketball scholarship and NIL money from Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky, and most recently, after entering the NCAA portal, Florida A&M University, where she is enrolled and will play basketball in 2026-27. Several others have decided to continue their studies without playing basketball. Many have already earned their bachelor’s degree and others have achieved career-oriented employment.
DeBolt is the longest tenured California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A) women’s basketball coach in Northern California and the 2nd longest in the State. He spent 30 seasons at the helm of the women’s teams at Contra Costa College where his teams won 11 Bay Valley Conference Championships and advanced to the State Championship Game twice (2001 and 2003). His 645 career coaching wins ranks 5th All-Time in the history of 3C2A women’s basketball.
He played varsity basketball at De Anza High School in Richmond; junior college basketball at Contra Costa College in San Pablo; and Division 1 basketball at San Diego State University.
DeBolt holds an Associate of Arts Degree in Liberal Arts from Contra Costa College; a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism from San Diego State University; and a Master of Science Degree in Mass Communication from San Diego State University. He taught Journalism classes and served as Journalism Department Chairperson at Contra Costa College for 40 years (1980-2020), retiring in 2020.
